LactiGo for runners
When to apply it for an interval session, a tempo, a long run, and race morning. Where it goes. What the research covers and what it does not.
Timing by session
- Early morning run: apply when you get up, dress, do your coffee and bathroom routine, then run. That is the 30 to 45 minute window without thinking about it.
- Intervals or hills: apply before you leave home or the office. The warm-up jog is inside the window.
- Long run: same. There is no published guidance on reapplying mid-run and no practical way to do it clean.
- Race morning: apply in the car or at the hotel, not at the start line. Sunscreen 30 minutes after the gel, if you use it. Carry a Go Packet for the post-race shower if you want the second application.
- After: shower, dry, apply to quads, hamstrings, and calves as part of the cooldown. Within LactiGo's guidance; optional.
Where
Quads, hamstrings, and calves, about 5 pumps per leg, spread like sunscreen. Add glutes for hills and trail. Rub in until dry, then socks and shoes. It does not stain socks or shorts once dry and does not run in sweat once absorbed.
What the research covers for runners
Not much yet. The published human trials used repeated short sprints on a bike (the rugby sevens trial) and a Yo-Yo shuttle test with a 3 x 1,000 m run (the uncontrolled footballer report). Nothing on 5 km, half, or marathon performance has been published. The oral beta-alanine evidence, by contrast, points to efforts of 30 seconds to 10 minutes, which is middle distance, not the marathon. Read the four studies before you decide, and treat the first tube as your own n-of-1 test over a month of sessions you already log.
Practical notes
- Travel: Go Packets (10 mL, one application) go through airport security without thought and suit race weekends.
- Heat: store the tube out of the sun. A gym bag is fine; a car dashboard in Townsville is not.
- Compression: dress once dry, a minute or two after rubbing in.
- Drug-tested events: carnosine is not on the WADA list and LactiGo is batch tested. Check the batch.
