LactiGo for cyclists

Cyclists are the one group LactiGo gives a number for: about 5 pumps per leg. Timing for a crit, a bunch ride, or a trainer session, and what the cycling research shows.

The method, for cyclists

  1. Clean, dry legs. If you shave, apply after, not straight after; freshly shaved skin can sting from the solvent.
  2. About 5 pumps per leg, spread over quads, hamstrings, calves, and glutes.
  3. Rub in until dry, one to two minutes.
  4. Bib shorts on. Chamois cream does not touch the same skin, so order does not matter.
  5. Sunscreen on the legs 30 minutes later, before you roll out.

What the cycling research shows

The one strong trial on the gel used a cycle ergometer: seven world-class rugby sevens players did 12 six-second sprints and produced higher peak power with the gel in three of the sprints, with no change in average power or effort. It was triple-blind. The 2021 horse study measured carnosine in muscle after topical application; nothing equivalent exists in human cyclists. The oral beta-alanine literature is large and points to efforts of 30 seconds to 10 minutes, which is a prologue or a kilo, not a four-hour road race. Read the studies, then treat your first tube as a month-long test on a session you already measure, such as a 5-minute effort on the trainer.
